Homework
How much homework: Your child will have homework on Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday nights. Homework should not take more than 15 minutes or so to complete. If it is taking your child longer or if homework is a struggle, please let me know so that I can help you. I try to only pick out assignments that I feel are meaningful (not busy work) so if I don’t have meaningful practice, I won’t send any home that night.
Why do we have homework: We have homework for 3 main reasons. 1) It reinforces the skills that we are working on in the classroom. 2) It allows you to see how your child is doing on the skills we are learning in class. 3) It allows your child to have one-on-one attention that is not always possible in the classroom.
How long do we have to complete the homework: The homework is meant to be completed the night it comes home & returned to school the next day unless otherwise stated on the assignment. However, if something unusual comes up with your family (someone is in the hospital, a family emergency, one or both parents are out of town, etc.) please let me know & extra time can be given. However, please don’t just not do the homework…let me know either through a note in their homework folder or through an email [email protected]
Helpful Hints:
1) Have a homework spot at your house where your child completes their homework.
2) Have a homework time…this can be right after school, before dinner, after dinner, whatever works for your family. But having a homework time will make it less likely for there to be battle about doing the homework.
3) Please have your child use a pencil, unless it says to color. That way they can easily erase any mistakes.
4) Please check over your child’s work & have them make any corrections necessary. We want to reinforce how to do the work correctly!
5) Don’t forget to have them put their name on their homework.
6) You are setting the stage for homework for years to come. Now is the time to make good homework habits!
